I’ve been developing websites since 1997. I started with flat HTML pages, eventually got into building dynamic, database-driven websites, and ultimately began building full-blown web apps and doing major app-to-app integrations. But get this… I don’t consider myself a techie. I think of myself as more of a business/marketing guy who just happens to be very adept at building websites. For me, developing web apps is kind of like doing puzzles. I really enjoy it.
And I should also say that I am equally strong on the front end and the back-end. That means that my keen sense of aesthetics and design is matched by my interest in having a normalized database and efficient code structures. I can go from designing a logo and tweaking the stylesheets to match, to designing an application that pulls data from a database on your site and transmits it via API to another web service. It’s all in a days work for me.
For the sake of matching the alphabet soup of technologies I’m skilled in, here’s a list of web development skills I’m proficient in:
- HTML 4/5
- CSS
- PHP
- JavaScript
- jQuery
- SQL
- Etc
I generally work on the LAMP stack. I leverage existing PHP frameworks such as CodeIgniter, CakePHP and Zend as well as CMS platforms like WordPress, Joomla and Drupal as called for by the project, but I’ve actually developed my own custom development framework as well.
I’m comfortable implementing plugins and modules on existing platforms. I can implement and customize open source applications from SourceForge or HotScripts. And if I ever get stuck, I’ve got a network of developers I can go to for instant backup.
So in summary, no matter what you need in terms of web development, I can deliver.
