The Plan
Synopsis:
Project: Overnight Success is an exciting and innovative project to brand, package and promote Dane’s various projects and commentary through a transmedia strategy including webisodes and other film projects, blogging, social media, mainstream media and others. The objective is to literally achieve Overnight Success—at least apparently. Of course, it won’t really be overnight. To pull this off we’ll need to form a team of collaborators to help execute on a well-designed plan over a period of months, with material that has been decades in the making.
The project involves telling a genuine and compelling rags-to-riches story that people can actually watch unfold in real-time. The first part of the story will be presented through a documentary-style video series of webisodes released weekly beginning on January 6, 2012 on this website as well as on video sites across the Web. Through a series of webisodes will tell the story of Dane’s quest to turn his ideas into reality through Project: Overnight Success.
In the process, we’ll introduce a host of other cool and potentially huge ideas that I am going to release as ‘open source’ projects on the web—each one bundled and packaged with intriguing branding and angles. The ultimate goal is to get a community of people collaborating on as many of these different projects as possible. The Overnight Success documentary is the delivery vector for this payload of ideas. It’s like a series pilot that lays down the foundation for a larger story.

This documentary-style rags-to-riches story is really a kind of “wrapper” or “delivery vector” for the other four key projects. The challenge is that all of these ideas taken separately are simply overwhelming. Project: Overnight Success pulls them all together into a bundle and presents them in the form of a human interest story that can hold people’s attention long enough for them to absorb more of the various ideas and get motivated to spread the word through social media.
The Instant Incubator is a collection of about 30 or so business ideas I’ve developed over the last 30 years that I am releasing to the world “as-is” with an invitation to anyone who wants to get involved in moving the projects forward. Some of these ideas already come with intellectual property such as domain names, functioning web applications, business plans, logos, copyrighted marketing material, and even some proprietary technology. So while I don’t have the bandwidth to really drive any of these projects, I can certainly provide plenty of help to the people who are capable of being the champion for any of these businesses.
This is the one project that I will drive primarily on my own. This is simply me blogging and vlogging on a wide range of topics that are of interest to me, including society, politics, psychology, philosophy/religion, technology, and more. The purpose is simply to add more dimensions to the overall story and to expand my following by publishing a steady stream of engaging content.
This project focuses on a series of high concept sci-fi movies that I’ve been gradually developing over the last 30 years. As these would definitely be big-budget movies and I have no Hollywood connections, I realize that a really unique approach to promoting the scripts is probably the only chance of making them happen. This project involves utilizing the power of collaboration, crowd sourcing and social media to produce the series of movies. I have written a first-draft screenplay in the series named Strands. But there are actually six different ‘movies’ in the series. The idea is to get many people working on these screenplays collaboratively, and then to work our collective social networks to promote this novel concept.
And here’s where it gets really deep. “IT IS” is a kind of philosophy based on a model of reality that I’ve been pondering on for the last 20 years or so. This model literally breaks down all of reality into the two essential aspects and then defines everything else based on that framework. It’s awesome, and is really the most significant of all these projects.
