MentorNet
Synopsis
For several years now I’ve been envisioning MentorNet as a membership website that helps people who want to succeed in Internet business by matching them up with experienced, successful mentors. Actually there is much more to it than that, like access to a huge knowledgebase of curated resources, a giant collection of of step-by-step action plans, tools, community and more.
Like many of the business models in my Idea Bank, MentorNet will also leverage game theory to increase member engagement. And there is a business model behind it that is downright ingenious, if I do say so myself. I’d say this business easily has the potential to be a $1MM/year revenue generator.
Status
We’ve done a huge amount of web development and content management behind this business. We’ve invested thousands and thousands of dollars invested in this one. This is one of my business concepts that really just needs a champion to come in and drive the business forward.
Could that person be you? If not, I’ll bet you could get a juicy finders fee just for connecting me to the right person.
History
I originally formed a business named MentorNet – The Internet Learning Center with my partners Brian Chew and Ed Lynn in 1995 in San Francisco. We started out teaching people how to use the Internet, but soon expanded into doing web development and online marketing.
I’ve continued to do web development off and on under that name ever since and a few years back formed a new incarnation of the business with my partner Rich Benvin as MentorNet, LLC.
These days I don’t do much web development if I can help it. I’m just burned out on it and my skills are getting rusty. And besides, I have much bigger and more interesting ideas for MentorNet.
